Which chart is appropriate for your data analysis?

Are you often confused about which chart to plot for particular data analysis?

I myself started as a novice in data analytics, came across an insightful book The Big Book of Dashboards: Visualizing Your Data Using Real-World Business Scenarios

Here are some basic charts and where exactly there should be used.

Bar Chart- Due to the length the bars represent they are best suited to represent a measure

Line Chart- These charts are used to depict the changes in the quantity over a specific period of time

Line Chart

Scatterplot: These charts are ideal for comparing two measures. They are represented by dots which also helps to establish the relationship between them.

Dot Plot- It also represents the weights or values across two dimensions

Choropleth Map- This map helps to identify the values across the different geographical regions by using shades of color.

Highlight table- This table is used to represent the detailed data in tables, but adding a layer of color encoding helps to identify the weightage of the dimension instantly.

Bullet graph- These graphs are best suited for benchmarking, it has a blue bar showing the actual value and a black line showing the target value and gray shading to represent performance bands.
